Special Guest Tomorrow!

Vilify from Monreal is headlining on the mainstage, along with Slim Pickins and Gnarcotics. I’ll rinse y’all out upstairs in the LAB with mad dancehall/reggae jams, future bass bangers and all sorts of Tropical flavours. Three Rooms and bass throughout the building! Don’t miss it!

Electronic Music Community Fundraiser – Friday September 30:

On August 5, Tyler Hargreaves, a Calgarian and six-time veteran of Shambhala, died tragically in a car accident on the way to this year's festival.  He was 31 years old and had two very young boys, Kyle (age 4) and Caleb (age 1). Tyler's friends are organizing a fundraiser in Calgary at 6 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Kilkenny pub towards a trust fund for the education of Kyle and Caleb Hargreaves.   

Tickets are $20 and will give you one free raffle ticket, one free beer and finger food all night.  Come in your Shambhala costume and you'll get another raffle ticket for free. Additional raffle tickets are $5 per ticket. 

The raffle includes two (2) tickets for Shambhala 2012,  a weekend getaway at Emerald Lake, two hours of tattoo time from Sacred Balance, massage therapy packages, and much more.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Sept 23 Dubble Bounce Track List- CJSW 90.9 FM

Wow, what an amazing couple of weeks for new releases! We heard a ton of new tracks from all over the world featuring a big fat moombahton set smack in the middle of the show. If you haven't already, grab Jon Kwest's Moombahton Maurauders project HERE. This is some of the freshest music I've heard recently; all your favorite golden era Native Tongues tracks remixed in a moombahton styleee by some of the best artists in the genre. Yeeeoooh Party People, covered the Musiquarium for Sideshow Sid, doing a 2 hour Bounce-quarium special. Started off with some old school hip hop from 7-8, slowly bringing it through to some raw house cuts near the end. Fela Kuti "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense" (k civ radio edit) by kcsgroove

Big Ups for all the people phoning in during this show for the Afrobeat set, nice to see people digging Fela. We warmed things up with a little reggae and hip-hop flavours then got deep into the African riddims with a bunch of brand new edits of classic Afrobeat tracks. My pick has to be K Civ's killer edit of one of my favorite Fela tracks Teacher Don't Teach me Nonsense (we heard a slightly different 12" party mix on the show). August 19 The Dubble Bounce Track List @ CJSW 90.9 FM

Wuuuuuut???!!! Digging this track so much right now. Started off the show interviewing the crew from Bass Bus who created (as you could gather from the name) a mad bus that pumps heavy bass and has been throwing street parties all summer. The tracks on the Double Bounce this week kept in tone with the summer vibes starting with a couple of newer reggae cuts. Then we dropped into some bass heavy beats slowly working up into new moombahton tracks. Word word, In for a 2 hour special this week, taking over The Musiquarium at 6 and rolling into Dubble Bounce territory from 7-8. We were very lucky to have Torqux and Twist in the studio for a live interview late in the show. They came straight from the airport to your ears, dropping a ton of heavyweight bass selections from the production duo's own catalog. The full recording should be up later this week. Canada Day! Big ups Canada, you've kept it real all these years, respecting the noble beaver. Hot Summer vibes this day courtesy of Our Daily Brett's killer spit-roast pig. Big ups A-Mac for droppin in and jamming those summer tunes. I kept it on the summer tip on the dubble bounce with some RnB/ hip hop jams to start before getting into the sweaty portion of a summer night and flexing out the bass. Todays's mix featured tons of new music including 3 tracks off the brand new Brownswood Electric 2 compilation on Gilles Petersons label Brownswood. We heard cuts from Ta-Ku, HxdB, and Synkro & Indigo, all unique, diverse and heavy. Instead here is what I am listening to right now. DJ C has to be one of the best but most under-exposed artists out there. From Boston and now Chicago he is one of those rare artists whose every production is top notch, can't find a bad track under his name. I have been dropping heavy tracks off his Sonic Weapons album in my sets for years, these things are party monsters that still manage to be smart and intricate. His remix of Gregory Isaacs "Gone a Jail" on the Shockout label and his "Let it Billie" 7" are two of the favorite records I own. The man himself has a new album out called Umami, check it, dig it, buy it and support great music! Out on MASHIT .

May 20 The Dubble Bounce Track List

This week we get deep into old school hip hop. Things start off with a ruff and rugged ragga hip-hop vs cumbia sort of set. (Speaking of cumbia edits, y'all should check these amazing tracks J-Boogie is giving away for free!). Straight late 80's 808 beats y'all including one of my fave Mantronix productions "Bass Machine".
Switching it up midway with a brand new Moombahtonish track from Calgary's mad talented AUDIT . Straight heat, YYC represent. We run things up with some tropical flavoured house before rinsing y'all out classic Dubble Bounce style with the latest in choice dubstep cuts. May 6 The Dubble Bounce Track List CJSW 90.9 FM

Be sure to tune in this Friday May 13 for a MOOMBAHTON MASSACRE featuring Ivan Rankic , GSD and Dj A-Mac . These guys are all talented producers at the forefront of this emerging dance music sound, and have gained worldwide attention with their mad edits. Expect exclusives, club bangers, tropical shakers and some of the freshest dance music you're going to hear anywhere. You can also check these guys live this Saturday at the Republik night club.


As for last weeks show, we started off with some heavy bass hip-hop beats and got quickly into a little mid-tempo boogie set mixing tropical, balkan and space disco (? -no seriously it works like a charm). Tempo and bounce factor get ramped up thanks to Lil B (by request) and a new remix by Calgary's own Smalltown Romeo of Torro Torro's latest; Blue House; a wicked EP with a pile of quality mixes. Things get proper heavy before we bring it right round in the end with some of my favorite dancehall cuts of the last little while. Had to play my favorite 6Blocc track "Never Scared" as a tribute to the amazing live set we heard last week on the Dubble Bounce. Big ups!

April 22 Dubble Bounce Track List

Yeeeeeoooooohhhhh party people, the dubble bounce is back in full effect after a short break to head down to California for the monumental Coachella festival (swag). Highlights had to include the completely ridiculous lil-B show above. Only the power of internet hype can get people to mash this hard with spatula's and ladles to tracks with 2-3 words per song.

Piles of fresh 7" 45's in the mix! Starting things off with a brand new heavy as fuuuck 7" on the Police in Helicopter Label from Disrupt and Tapes:

Mixed in with some reggae classics was some brand new Debruit killing it with some freaked-out turkish futurism of his new EP Sis Surpriz. Title's track Sidechain reaction is one of the most beautiful neo-soul jams I have come across in ages, cop it here or even on itunes. Can't forget to mention Mophono, ending the show with a choice cut from my FAVorite (seriously) album this year Cut Form Crush . Dig!

As for the Dubble bounce we are keeping things tropical and bass heavy as usual. Had to play two tracks of the new African Head Charge album "Voodoo of the Godsent" . African head charge have been making psychedelic reggae / dub / electronic / experimetal music since the early 80's! 30 years on they are still creating wild and warped futurist dub sounds. Hiiiiighly recomend you check it out via On-U Sound Records . How can you not love something based on "a vision of a psychedelic Africa" !!!

Two Dubble Bounce Favorites (Toddla T and Untold !) were in town last Friday along with Reso at the Marquee Room for the Modern Math Massive. Had to hit you off with a little preview show featuring the best of Toddla, Untold and Reso live in the mix alongside new Mr. Scruff (above) and some futuristic bass vibes. Great to hear Scruff remixing Hizatrons killer Von Glooperstein that I have been raving about (and raving to) for the last year or so. JUNGALIST PRESSURE! Starting off the first half hour with a pile of drum and bass goodies, including Marcus Visionary's brand new track Nice up the Dance (Available here) . Then we got into some Heavy dubstep from Chase and Status off their brand new album No More Idols. Huge ups to Calgary's Own Smalltown Romeo (Smalltown DJ's + Wax Romeo) and their great new track Party Motion. Wicked to see our crew linking up with the likes of James Pants, In Flagranti, Malente and more for a single that will be slaying dance floors the world over for many months to come. Starting off with some Original versus the flip action! We heard Rene Costy's fantastic 1970 Parisian jazz-funk number "Scrabble" which was sampled for Dilla's classic "Fuck the Police". (Both tracks available on a kick ass 7 inch here!) We then got into Wailing Souls- Fire House Rock, one of the many classic reggae tunes sampled for Max Tanonne's excellent Mos Dub project which pairs some of Mos' greatest acapellas with some tidily cut up reggae breaks. New tracks throughout the mix; new glitch/hop courtesy of Lunice, and Sharps, moving into wonked out dance tracks near the end of the set. Pick of the week goes to Cottam's incredibly driving, groovy and soulful track of his 4th EP, a slow burner that is irresistible in the dance. Listen here!

20 Best 7" 45's of 2010 - CJSW 90.9 FM

On the Jan 14 edition of The Dubble Bounce we heard a live mix of the best 7 inch records of 2010. Kick ass 45's ranging everywhere from Dancehall to mashups, soul, jazz, dubstep, wonky beats and more! Tracks are in no particular order, except for bpm. 7inch of the year has to go to Ticklah's remix of Jahdan Blakkamoore's General,  certified classic, harder than hell reggae (listen here). December 7 Dubble Bounce Track List CJSW 90.9 FM

Starting off with brand new reggae styles courtesy of Soom T and Disrupt from their LP Ode to a Carrot, just released last week! We then work through some bass heavy beats and into dance chunes on a deep house tip. Track of the week has to go to Sharps - "Bam" from his recent Tropical Bass EP (buy it here) . This ep blew me away with its futuristic, bass heavy, rave leaning re-rubs of classic riddims. To top it all off I found out Sharps is Canadian! Living in Van and previously from Edmonton. Wicked local talent for sure.

Dec 24 and 31 The Dubble Bounce Track List - CJSW 90.9 FM

Apologies for the delayed posting but I hadz no internetz over the break y'all. Tons of fresh tracks here to wrap up the great year of music that was 2010. The 31st show started with some footwork/ juke which seems to be the heartthrob of many a music journalist this year. We work through some fresh hiphop including the pick of the week off Ghostface Killah's new album, Apollo Kids; a fantastic rework of Phyllis Dillon's stone cold classic Woman of the Ghetto . Bringing up the energy near the end we heard a whole pile of UK underground dance music: funky, grime, garage etc. Huge ups to Untold who delivered two wicked strong late entries to 2010.

The 24th show was a more mellow affair featuring brand new soul reworks by Dj Day, Onur Engin (love those chunky drums!) and Dj Catalist. We also heard some massive drum breaks off two new 7"'s courtesy of Virgil Howe and the Mighty Mocambos, BOUNCE!
