Bersa Discos has to be one of my favorite labels ever, it's the only label where I've snapped up the entire catalog. They have been pushing the freshest in nueva cumbia sounds for a minute now and as moombahton rises cumbia comes into its own, representing the deepest in futurist tropical vibes! We heard two tunes off Bersa Discos 7, DJ Negro- Porque te Vas and on the flip, El Nosotros -Tu Cu Cu. Also have to highlight Dubbel Dutch's latest release on Dutty Artz (big up label owner DJ /Rupture). This one causes destruction in the dance:

DJ Tokyo is away straight West Coastin this week, living it up Canuck on Granville st. The Dubble Bounce will be covered by Sideshow Sid tonight; expect a deep 2 hour set of everything from Jazz to Jungle starting at 6pm on CJSW (www.cjsw.com).

Instead here is what I am listening to right now. DJ C has to be one of the best but most under-exposed artists out there. From Boston and now Chicago he is one of those rare artists whose every production is top notch, can't find a bad track under his name. I have been dropping heavy tracks off his Sonic Weapons album in my sets for years, these things are party monsters that still manage to be smart and intricate. His remix of Gregory Isaacs "Gone a Jail" on the Shockout label and his "Let it Billie" 7" are two of the favorite records I own. The man himself has a new album out called Umami, check it, dig it, buy it and support great music! Out on MASHIT .

May 20 The Dubble Bounce Track List

This week we get deep into old school hip hop. Things start off with a ruff and rugged ragga hip-hop vs cumbia sort of set. (Speaking of cumbia edits, y'all should check these amazing tracks J-Boogie is giving away for free!). Straight late 80's 808 beats y'all including one of my fave Mantronix productions "Bass Machine".
Switching it up midway with a brand new Moombahtonish track from Calgary's mad talented AUDIT . Straight heat, YYC represent. We run things up with some tropical flavoured house before rinsing y'all out classic Dubble Bounce style with the latest in choice dubstep cuts. Track of the week has to go to Gatekeeper and his (as always) impeccable new 12" "Rawtones" . Had to play both sides, y'all should do the same and pick up this tasty slice here.

We talk about the history of the genre, where to find these sounds and big up the first Calgary Moombahton party. May 6 The Dubble Bounce Track List CJSW 90.9 FM

Be sure to tune in this Friday May 13 for a MOOMBAHTON MASSACRE featuring Ivan Rankic , GSD and Dj A-Mac . These guys are all talented producers at the forefront of this emerging dance music sound, and have gained worldwide attention with their mad edits. Expect exclusives, club bangers, tropical shakers and some of the freshest dance music you're going to hear anywhere. You can also check these guys live this Saturday at the Republik night club.


As for last weeks show, we started off with some heavy bass hip-hop beats and got quickly into a little mid-tempo boogie set mixing tropical, balkan and space disco (? -no seriously it works like a charm). Tempo and bounce factor get ramped up thanks to Lil B (by request) and a new remix by Calgary's own Smalltown Romeo of Torro Torro's latest; Blue House; a wicked EP with a pile of quality mixes. Things get proper heavy before we bring it right round in the end with some of my favorite dancehall cuts of the last little while. Had to play my favorite 6Blocc track "Never Scared" as a tribute to the amazing live set we heard last week on the Dubble Bounce. Big ups!

April 22 Dubble Bounce Track List

Yeeeeeoooooohhhhh party people, the dubble bounce is back in full effect after a short break to head down to California for the monumental Coachella festival (swag). Highlights had to include the completely ridiculous lil-B show above. Only the power of internet hype can get people to mash this hard with spatula's and ladles to tracks with 2-3 words per song.

Piles of fresh 7" 45's in the mix! Starting things off with a brand new heavy as fuuuck 7" on the Police in Helicopter Label from Disrupt and Tapes:

Mixed in with some reggae classics was some brand new Debruit killing it with some freaked-out turkish futurism of his new EP Sis Surpriz. Dropped two new future soul / heavy R'n'beats 7" 's courtesy of Suff Daddy and Title. Title's track Sidechain reaction is one of the most beautiful neo-soul jams I have come across in ages, cop it here or even on itunes. Can't forget to mention Mophono, ending the show with a choice cut from my FAVorite (seriously) album this year Cut Form Crush . Dig!

As for the Dubble bounce we are keeping things tropical and bass heavy as usual. Had to play two tracks of the new African Head Charge album "Voodoo of the Godsent" . African head charge have been making psychedelic reggae / dub / electronic / experimetal music since the early 80's! 30 years on they are still creating wild and warped futurist dub sounds. Hiiiiighly recomend you check it out via On-U Sound Records . How can you not love something based on "a vision of a psychedelic Africa" !!!
